Butlin altered the share structure, the 5 shilling share being reduced to 1 shilling.

1946 Winter

was the year they started the Butlin's Clubs Annual get together at the Albert hall. This went on until 1966 and were design to keep campers in touch with each other over the Winter period when the camps were shut.

1948

Billy Butlin Opens his first Holiday Camp in Mosney holiday camp near Laytown in Co Meath. Ireland. It is still in existance after it was sold to it's Irish owner in 1983. It has now been leased to the Irish Government to house asylum seekers till 2004.

1950

Bobby Butlin spends a summer season at Ayr as a redcoat.

1958

. Such was the demand for his food that John Koon convinced Billy Butlin to open a Chinese kitchen in every Butlins Holiday Camp with a simple menu of Chicken Chop Suey and Chips.Chicken Chop Suey

Cliff Richards and the Drifters started their career at Butlin's Clacton in the Pig and Whistle bar. Cliff Richard and The Drifters are playing a four week residency at Butlin's Holiday Camp in Clacton.

He wasn't a success until he was moved to the South Sea Islands Coffee Bar as he cleared out the House!

1958

Roy Hudd joined Butlins, performing double act at Clacton as a redcoat. Roy Hudd has also given his help in keeping the West Cliff Theatre going. His shows still grace the town.

1960

Billy Butlin promotes a race across Britain. Wendy Lewis, 18, and Beryl Randle, 31, both receive 1000 pounds in prize money for walking the route in 17 days, 7.5 hours

1961

Billy Bunter at Butlins Book is produced,The dust jacket came in two designs, one promoting Butlin's Holiday Camp.

Easter 1964

The infamous 'Mods' and 'Rockers' riot takes place on Clacton Seafront. This might have influenced Bobby Butlins decision later to ban Teenagers staying on their own at Butlins.

19th May 1966

The aptly named "Top of the Tower" restaurant was opened by Anthony Wedgwood Benn and Sir Billy Butlin at the top of the London Post Office Tower then the Highest building in the UK.

Alvin Startdust starred as the legendary ‘Sir Billy Butlin’ in The Butlin’s Story, a new musical -which premiered at the London Palladium - celebrating Butlin’s Diamond Jubilee Year.

The Last Annual Butlin's club get together ran from Tuesday to Saturday and had 5,000 campers a night, entertained the same people they saw at the camps during the year. The Duke of Edinburgh would receive a cheque from Billy Butlin for the Playing Fields association.
