1st April 1968

Billy Butlin decided for Tax reasons to give up the ownership of the Holiday camps and therefore the control and turn them over to his son Bobby.

He retired to Jersey were he spent his remaining years.

Chalet Patrols originally designed to listen for screaming babies and inform their parents at the clubs and theatres, were also asked to keep any eye on any sexual pranks in the 60's through to the 80's.

1968

Bobby Butlin converted their 'singles accommodation into self-catering use, and stressing their 'family' holidays. He also extended the season, which left less time for maintenance.

Bobby also stopped teenage bookings, stopped serving Lunch and only offered Breakfast and Evening Meals with Lunch available from the bars and shops on-site.

A midnight Cabaret was introduced for Adults only which dropped Billy Butlins insistence on family entertainment.

The Company also started to diversify into caravan parks, both in the UK and abroad. It also ditcvhed the 'all in one price' tag by franchising most of their operations in shops and food. Which led to the profit motive elbowing out the service that Butlins was famous for.

Instead of being the trend setters, they followed others to try and recapture the holiday maker market from the cheaper holidays in Spain and other places abroad. The site of the Jack Tar Hotel Village, brainchild of Sir Billy Butlin, which was closed in 1990.

Butlins was back on top with record bookings.

1979
